[The Something Contest] Wave 3 Here!

After hanging out with the chubby Martian Manhunter – it is time to take a journey back to the island… dammit.

So we ask you, our faithful listeners, in less than 1000 words. (And by less than 1000, remember. 25 is also less than 1000) Give us an answer to one of the great mysteries of the island.  Pick any one you want.  From smoke monsters, to polar bears, to the fact that Kate REALLY wasn’t that freckly.

Answer a grand question and your selection will be given points towards SOMETHINGSWAG.

Where do you put your answers.. ANOTHER MYSTERY… no?  Right.. put them in the comments of THIS VERY POST!

  1. ISLAND MYSTERY: If I sweat like a pig if it gets above 62F, why do Hurley’s shirts stay relatively dry?

I know what you’re thinking. Hugo “Hurley” Reyes’s shirts stay dry because it’s a TV show. WRONG!! What you, average viewer, don’t seem to appreciate is that Hurley is the only character who straddles the line between all realities. And since he straddles them all, he is in NONE of them. Thermodynamics and personal experience would suggest that that boy should drown in his own sweat by the end of episode one. Fin. End of scene. Yet, he “lives” on, basically bludgeoning us over the head with the fact that the entire island is a construct unbound by natural law, with Mr. Reyes not even bound to the reality presented by the island. C’mon, guys it was so obvious!! Be ashamed for not seeing it. I mean, where do you think we picked up the well-known axiom “Never let ‘em see you sweat”??? Everyone knows that the Dial Corporation was actually a Dharma initiative shell in the ‘80s. Incidentally, it turns out “Shell” was in fact NOT a shell corporation, which seems like a wasted opportunity if you ask me. But I digress. So: Hurley’s shirts remain viable episode after episode and no-one questioned it. Not even Hurley, and he should’ve known better. Total foreshadow!! That’s writing for you, guys. Intricate, powerful, masterful manipulation of people and prose. I know the series regrettably came to a close, but part of me will never forget those dry Hurley shirts, and the magical worlds they promised which lay just beyond our own feeble, sweat drenched existence.
