{"id":2685,"date":"2021-02-19T09:47:29","date_gmt":"2021-02-19T14:47:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.somethingcast.com\/?p=2685"},"modified":"2021-02-19T09:54:08","modified_gmt":"2021-02-19T14:54:08","slug":"blog-a-little-something-extra-robs-nightmare-on-elm-street-movies-ranked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.somethingcast.com\/?p=2685","title":{"rendered":"[BLOG] A Little Something Extra Rob&#8217;s Nightmare on Elm Street Movies: Ranked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\r\n<p>Hey Somethings!<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>Been playing\u00a0a fair amount\u00a0of Freddy on Dead By Daylight lately, and that got me thinking about the &#8220;Nightmare&#8221; franchise, so here&#8217;s my take on ranking all nine movies from worst to best!<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>#9 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Freddy&#8217;s Dead : The Final Nightmare<br \/><\/strong>This movie was trash.\u00a0 Most of their plots and &#8216;revelations&#8217; were lifted from other movies that the viewer had known for a while (Wait&#8230; you can PULL FREDDY OUT OF A DREAM?!?!?&#8230;) which made things very boring for me, and the times they tried to be original (Freddy having a daughter.. his power coming from &#8216;Dream Demons&#8217;&#8230;) were so schlocky that this movie easily falls to the bottom of the list.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>#8 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy&#8217;s Revenge<\/strong><br \/>Regardless of the possible &#8216;subtext&#8217; of this movie&#8230; it was a huge downgrade from the original with lackluster acting, cheesy visuals, and ZERO memorable scenes. The lack of memorable scenes gives it JUST enough of a boost over the AMAZINGLY memorable(ly bad) Final Nightmare to have this one clock in at number 8.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somethingcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FredKrueger2010_infobox.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2687\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somethingcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FredKrueger2010_infobox.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"123\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.somethingcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FredKrueger2010_infobox.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.somethingcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FredKrueger2010_infobox-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 123px) 100vw, 123px\" \/><\/a>\r\n<figcaption><i><center>Good, bad, I&#8217;m<br \/>the one with the<br \/>knives&#8230;<\/center><\/i><\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>#7 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010 Remake)<\/strong><br \/>Rebooting a beloved franchise that had fallen off in recent years?\u00a0 Casting Jackie Earl Haley (who was amazing as Rorschach in &#8216;Watchmen&#8217;) as Freddy?\u00a0 I&#8217;m in!\u00a0 At least&#8230; I wanted to be in.\u00a0 It felt like a college film project based on the original.\u00a0 Visually it was close (although, I wasn&#8217;t a fan of Freddy&#8217;s &#8216;new&#8217; look), but it lacked the heart and&#8230; dare I say charm.. .of the original.\u00a0 All in all, the title was accurate, though not in the way that was intended.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>#6 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Freddy VS Jason<\/strong><br \/>It was a bold move to even attempt this movie as it had the potential to ruin two different, beloved horror franchises&#8230;however, out of all the matchups that could have been made&#8230; the &#8216;immovable object&#8217; of Jason paired up with the wise-cracking Freddy was the perfect match.\u00a0 While the ending was to be expected, it was a valid homage to both fan bases and well done.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>#5 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Wes Craven&#8217;s New Nightmare<\/strong><br \/>This movie is underrated.\u00a0 Arriving 3 years after &#8216;The end of the franchise&#8217;, I love the metaness of it.\u00a0 I love seeing the principle cast back.\u00a0 While it&#8217;s the poorest performing movie of the lot, and falls a bit outside of the continuity of the franchise, it was an amazingly bold direction to go in and I applaud the choice.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>#4 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>A Nightmare on Elm Street : The Dream Child\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>The wrap up of the &#8216;middle trilogy&#8217;, &#8220;The Dream Child&#8221; uses Alice&#8217;s unborn baby&#8217;s dreams to fuel Freddy&#8217;s ability and was the poorest performing of said trilogy.\u00a0 The gas was starting to run out of the series, which lead to the inevitable &#8220;Final Nightmare&#8221; debacle.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>#3 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>A Nightmare on Elm Street : The Dream Master\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>This was the mid point of the &#8220;Dream&#8230;.&#8221; trilogy and it effectively put Renny Harlan on the map.\u00a0 Pulling in nearly $50 mil on a $6.5 mil budget, it was the highest grossing film of the series in the U.S. until Freddy VS Jason came out&#8230; even with Patricia Arquette&#8217;s role recast to Tuesday Knight.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.somethingcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/unnamed-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.somethingcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/unnamed-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"235\" height=\"118\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.somethingcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/unnamed-1.jpg 512w, https:\/\/www.somethingcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/unnamed-1-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.somethingcast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/unnamed-1-480x240.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 235px) 100vw, 235px\" \/><\/a>\r\n<figcaption><em>Plus, that song&#8230;<\/em><\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>#2 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>A Nightmare on Elm Street : Dream Warriors<\/strong><br \/>Spots 2 and 1 are close enough for me to almost be interchangeable&#8230; (almost).\u00a0 With a great cast (Langenkamp, Arquette, Fishburn&#8230;) it revitalized the franchise after the dismal &#8220;Freddy&#8217;s Revenge&#8221; and really drove the series for the next two films.\u00a0 Had this movie tanked, it easily could have relegated &#8220;Nightmare&#8221;
