Ok here we go… and go.. and go… and we are celebrating our Year 4.
Where in years gone by we have found our way to the fabulous Wildpig Comics, this year there just wasn’t a lot to discuss when it came to the comic universes.. so we decided to have an episode where we create our own.
So we got Bill Ellis, manager of Wildpig and longtime friend of the show and Jay Sandlin, new friend of the show and writer of Outbreak Mutiny, as well as a regular contributor to Buzzfeed! I’m also leaving a link here to this article, but you might want to wait til the end of the episode to click on it… trust us.
Let me (Hatton here) take a quick moment to say a thank you to every one of you that has listened over the years and has gotten us here. It is because of you folks that we do it and thanks for being there. As we crest our fourth year and our next episode is that big ol’ triple digit, it is stereotypical, but totally true, that without you, there would be no us. So thanks everyone.
Enough prattling – let’s get on with the show.
Ok, here we go!
We all like ourselves a little bit of television.
We also like ourselves the earworms that lodge into your head for 30 minutes and beyond. So Hatton’s taken a few. Rob’s taken a few. And they are going head to head to find out who has the best line-up.
And a battle as important as this needs an important guest. So we got our friend and co-host of ‘THIS IS IMPORTANT‘, Kyle!
If you are looking to find other interesting and random things match up, be sure to check-out Steve & Kyle’s show, and get updates on their Twitter
For now though – find out who won the THEME MUSIC CHALLENGE!
♫ In the not too distant future…
On Thursday on Netflix…
The Mads are at it again! This time, they’ve taken the Somethings hostage and before they can be set free they have to review their favorite episodes of the B-Movie-Riffathon of MST3k!
Ok, so there are no Mad Scientists. There’s no SOL. There’s simply an episode of your favorite podcast. That doesn’t mean it isn’t a topic after their own heart, and with the new season coming out Thursday on Netflix, no better time to talk about it!
So repeat to yourself it’s just a show, and you should really just relax… unless you listen to us in your car. Then don’t relax, that would be horrible.
As has become a tradition of the Somethingcast, we watch a lot of Netflix.
That’s not the tradition.. it’s a fact.. but it isn’t the tradition I’m speaking of. I’m talking about when a new Marvel show appears on our queue, we call on the one and only @Ungajje himself, Tim Stevens. If you aren’t aware of Tim’s work at Marvel.com, just go.. we’ll wait.
But for a show like Iron Fist where there is so much to unpack, we needed someone to balance out our chi when it came to the martial arts featured in the show, so we also called in @KungFuDriveIn, himself, Jeof Vita. If you aren’t aware of Jeof’s podcast, Kung-Fu Drive-In, just go.. we’ll wait.
The four of us have been chosen to Defend you from what is to come next… unless you already watched Iron Fist. Then you’re beyond our help.
So spoilers abound, but no matter what… ok, here we go!
Five creatures of great power, united for a common goal.
I, of course, am talking about the folks over at AfterbuzzTV.
The Somethings are joined by the whole of the giant robot forming cast of their review and report show for Voltron: Legendary Defender. We have Katie Cullen, Mark Donica, Megan Salinas, Somethingcast old friends Emma Fyffe, and via chatroom Alexis Torres.
It is a loud and raucous affair, just how we like it.
So everybody, get ready!
FORM FEET AND LEGS!
FORM ARMS AND BODY!
AND I’LL FORM…. THE… Uhm… ….the… somehing.. ..you know.. the .. top part thinky thingy.
I have to admit, I’m a bit of a fanboy, and I’m a firm believer in amazing art comes from amazing people.
A little background.
I caught a little show called “The Quest”. In doing some research about the show, I stumbled upon contact info for one miss Bonnie Gordon. Blindly reaching out to her to tell her I quickly became a fan of the show and had been rooting for her, I fully expected things to end there. What I shock I got when I received a reply a few days later.
We booked her as a guest on our “Reality Show” episode, and she said she’d bring Xander along too since he was on “King of the Nerds” and that they’d Skype us with some time from a con they were at in Houston.
That, and an over 3 hour conversation with two of the most genuine and friendly people you’d ever meet, became the start of something special for us.
Through their hard work and non-stop con schedule, along with a healthy dose of raw talent, the Library Bards started to blow up (as the kids say) We had the honor of meeting them in person at Anime Fan Fest NJ in 2016 and catching their concert live, so when they launched a Kickstarter for their first studio album, we had to help them make it a reality.
I can safely say, it’s fantastic.
Are they a comedy parody band? Yes. Do they take themselves too seriously? No. But by no stretch does that mean they don’t give it their all this whole album. From the soulful tone in “Black and Red” to the growling refrains in “Now You Have The Bridge Spock” Bonnie’s voice has a great range of intensity while never losing herself to the mimic of the parody. And Xander’s harmonies are airy yet solid while his own verses in songs such as “Accio” and “Regeneration” prove he’s not just a pretty face who can do harmonies, but a great vocalist in his own right.
Beyond the quality of the voices, the lyrics are slick and witty and never feel forced for the sake of the parody or the rhyme. It’s easy to see why this duo’s star is on the rise.
You can find “Bardcore” on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon and wherever else you download your music from.
You can find The Library Bards on Twitter @LibraryBards, Youtube and Facebook at /librarybards, find their merch at dftba.com/libratybards and at librarybards.com
If you’re a fan of all things funny, nerdy, geeky and awesome, do yourself a favor and get this album!
If you’re looking to hear us talk to the Bards, take a listen to Episode 52 right here!
With the craziness of our Patreon radio drama, we might have a little bit of horror on the mind.
The Somethings are talking one of the most interesting shows on television in American Horror Story. British style season per story direction. Old actors finding new life, and old themes finding new spins. Whether it’s fighting your way out of a hotel with doors that lead to nowhere, or hanging with the coolest Coven in the Big Easy, the Somethings have their favs.
So settle in and, as always, spoilers abound.
Ok, here we go.
We the Somethings of this Cast, in Order to form a more perfect podcast, establish hilarity, insure timely updates, provide for the sarcastic defence, promote the general whatever, and secure the I’m Running Out Here to ourselves and our Posterior (..heh, butt), do ordain and establish this episode for the pleasure of our audience.
The boys are getting a little political this week – and by political – they mean they’re talking about fake people who held the office of President.
Presidents from film, television, the future, and the past are all up to debate in this congress of Hatton & Podcast Rob.
We do our best to not discuss anything related to real politics.. because seriously.. you need an hour break from that.
So sit back, relax, and hum Hail To The Chief… here we go.
PS – Please take a look at your feed. This week you are getting a bonus of the first episode of STORIES TOO AMAZE! More on that post.
The Somethings decided that since it is the scaaaarrriest of holidays, we would go and give you a treat and not a trick this year, by releasing tomorrow’s episode for you today. That way you can enjoy our spooooooky conversation while you are out haunting around.
So what is this episode about? Well – take your top four fictional characters that you want by your side during the zombie apocalypse. We take one from movies. One from television. One from book fiction. One wildcard. And then we decide who would survive.
Now, you have to figure that James and Podcast Rob are both going to think their team is the strongest, so they got themselves a judge to solve who’s team is the best of the best. None other than friend of the show, horror afficienado, from the Supernatural Department at Head Over Feels, Dawn!
So we know you are going to disagree with us… which means you should start a discussion below!
Ok, here we boo! (get it? ..because it’s… right.. you get it.. nevermind)
You are correct, the boys are back with the newest installment in the Netflix Marvel Universe. We have seen what goes down in Hell’s Kitchen. We have had our Alias investigated. Now it is time to check out who runs Harlem.
As has become a SomethingCast tradition, we can’t take on a character like Cage without a little help, so we brought our favorite dulcet toned delight, Tim ‘Ungaije’ Stevens (Check out his Psyche Ward at Marvel!). Please settle in while we talk the history of the character, the concepts of the show, the connections with the Marvel U, and more.
How does Cage rank amongst the rest – now’s the time to find out with your Podcast For Hire.
Ok, here we go!
